News Type: Recap

  • May 17th Bout Debrief

    Hello Derby Fans,

Thank you again for coming out for such an incredible day of derby! At the risk of feeling like a broken record, I once again want to say how grateful we all are for your continued support, these games are nothing without our fans! From filling our seats and cheering on our home and visiting teams to participating in all our wacky antics, we are so happy to be bringing the roller derby community to a location– or a screen– near you!

Let’s jump into a recap about what happened during these two awesome games.

Jet City’s first game of the day was against the Kidney Thieves, a pickup team from Willamette, OR. After vying for the lead, Jet’s team took it and held it, to ultimately take the win at 248 vs. 101. This game was full of heavy hits and running packs, with lots of jammer on jammer action! Thank you again to the Kidney Thieves for driving all the way up north to us, we really appreciated playing your team!

Most Valuable Jammer was awarded to Jet City’s #222, Silent but Deadly and to the Kidney Thieves’ #815, Tiny Danger. Most Valuable Blocker went to Jet’s #26, Nayslayer, and to Kidney Thieves’ #808, Yogi Nami Sari. Finally, Bombshell, Jet’s #106, was awarded Most Valuable Overall.

The second game set Jet up against West Sound, for a true neck in neck bout. Power starts and pivot line starts were the theme of this game, that pitted two very evenly matched teams against each other.

Ultimately West Sound took the win at 170, with Jet only two points behind at 168. For those of you who saw the final jam of the game, I can’t say much more other than that’s what derby is about!! What an exciting way to end such a tense bout, it was so much fun to hear fans of both teams cheering and shouting in the final moments of the game.

Awards for this game were well deserved, with Most Valuable Jammer going to West Sounds’ #4, Lil Miss Speedy, and Jet’s #03, Mary Contrary. Most Valuable Blocker went to West Sounds’ #624 Apache Fist, and Jet’s #403 Miss Violet Neauregarde.

Again, what a wonderful weekend! If you missed any of the action, you can find our stream on Twitch through the weekend, and after that it’ll be on our Youtube channel.

‘But No.01,’ I can hear you asking yourself, ‘what if I want more derby in my life?’ Well the good news is that we’re playing again in two and a half weeks!! On June 7th, once again join us up in Edmonds for our final game of the season! I’ll have more on that later, so stay tuned!

    Hugs and Bruises,

  • Post Game Report!

    Hello Derby Fans!

Wow, what an incredible day of roller derby! Thank you again to our visiting teams for coming out with such spirit, our officials and behind the scenes supporters for putting in the long hours to help us play, and especially to you, our dear derby fans! It is so special to be able to play such an incredible sport, and each of you is essential to our success and our ability to get back out on the track each time.

Our first match pitted Jet City against Grave Danger! Grave Danger is one of the hometeams of Rat City Roller Derby, the Seattle flat-track league. Originally formed in 2004, Rat City has undergone many changes, but remains a large league, bringing junior and adult roller derby to central King County.

Grave Danger took the win 207 to 151, but it was an awesome game, full of jukey jammers, quick hits, and lots of pack running! Members from both teams reported having ‘so much fun’ on the track!

I want to take a moment to recognize the MVPs of the game, as these skaters played hard, played fast, and brought their best game to every minute they were on the track.

On the Jet City side of things, Most Valuable Blocker (MVB) went to #106, Bombshell! Most Valuable Jammer (MVJ) went to #222, Silent But Deadly.

For Grave Danger, MVB went to #1910, Mexican Revolution! And #42, AC SlayedHer took home MVJ.

This was a tough game, with all those positions fought for and very well earned.

Our second match was against  Outlaw Skate Crew, in their very first pickup team bout! With skaters coming from all across Washington, Idaho, and Oregon, we are so grateful to have hosted your first pick up bout! This game was full of heavy hits, and an exciting back and forth as both teams fought and lost and fought for the lead again.

Ultimately, Jet took the win at 149 to 145- but talk about a close game!! Those 4 points were fought for at the last minute, and it was a pleasure to play against a team that kept us on our toe stops.

Once again, I’d like to shout out to our MVPs! Jet City’s MVB was #126, Charlie Horsepower, with MVJ going to #700, Toe Jammer.

Outlaw’s MVB went to  #711, Kristy Kreme, with MVJ taken by #301, Noodly Soup.

If you missed the action, never fear! You can still catch our stream on twitch for the next two weeks, and after that it’ll migrate over to our Youtube channel.

Thanks again to everyone who turned out, and we’re already looking forward to seeing you next time! We have games coming up in May and June, and stay tuned for all sorts of updates.

  • It’s a FOOD FIGHT ~ Recap

    It’s a FOOD FIGHT ~ Recap

    TLDR: CHAOS. Utter. Chaos.

Is that a picture of all of the referees in the box?!

    Why, yes it is.

In our fundraiser bouts, the rules of derby are a bit different. Normal game play penalties still apply (safety first of course!) but audience members have the opportunity to pay to add additional rules or to change game play. Also, to optimize the most fun, each jam is a full 2 minutes, which means no lead jammers and no calling off jams.

As the Salty jammer, What the Pho?, lines up on the jammer line, she is joined by Sweet’s Strawberry BB dawning a Banana suit (A strawberry banana combo!). As fans might remember from last year, a touch from the banana forces that skater to spin off the track. Ultimately, as a jammer with this “Mario Star Power”, no one can get in Strawberry BB’s way and she was free to race around the track! But what’s this? Out of no where, the whistle for lead jammer is heard, and while everyone is confused, What the Pho? calls off the jam after passing the opposing blockers. Oops! Both jammer and jammer ref were too used to the “normal” bout rules!

Props to skater, Angelica Della Morte (Haterade), who hand-made many of the costumes featured in this bout!

Next onto the track, a new fundraiser favorite: the Chicken and Waffles! Here we have two jammers for each team, one with a chicken helmet cover and the other in a waffle suit, who must remain linked for the whole jam. In addition, team Salty gets an added blocker. A Bacon blocker. That makes 13 skaters on the track at once! That’s a lot of bodies! And in all of this mayhem, the first penalty of the night is called: Failure to hold hands!

Thanks to some low Giant Fuzzy Dice roles from our coaches, only two blockers from each team get to join their jammers on the track! What a difference from the previous jam! One Salty blocker swaps places with our referee, JustaBill, and with Salteeny starting in the box, Bill finds himself all by himself! Assumed to be easy pickings, Addie Cakes goes to make a gentle shove against Bill, but Bill stands strong and Addie ends up on the ground and with a big smile on her face! She didn’t expect that! Way to go Bill!

Strawberry BB is out again as the jamming banana ready to tear it up, but she soon finds herself sent to the box for a Failure to Dance during the designated song. On re-entry, she approaches the pack somewhat hesitantly, and then, starts dancing. Everyone follows her lead and dances too. As the blockers are distracted, she dashes through before anyone can realize that Robot Pancake isn’t actually playing! What a move!

As the next jam lines up, an official review is called. It turns out that none of the referees were dancing during the previous jam, and so they are all sent to the box!

    Anything goes for 30 seconds!

At the blow of the whistle, What the Pho? takes full advantage, cutting the track wide to get around the Sweet blockers. Lucky Harms catches on and starts cutting the apex. Meanwhile, there is no pack, there’s a Pickle racing around the track, Sweet blockers are skating hand in hand. Everyone seems to be enjoying an Adult Open Skate session! Eventually, the referees are let out of the box and derby resumes. My question: without any jammer refs, did anyone make any points?

Speaking of points, by halftime, it is 96 to 56 with team Sweet holding the lead, in case you were wondering.

But more importantly, during the half, Strawberry BB and Salty B throw down in a Sweet and Salty Dance-Off and it is the BEST. THING. EVER.

BB has certainly got skill and grace with a beautiful twirling intro and the ability to on-skates twerk, but it’s hard to beat a sultry, fan-waving Hotdog who starts rolling around the ground like she’s on a gas station conveyor belt! With an audience cheer consensus, Salty B wins her team an additional 40 points.

Early into the second half, its a jammer ref rivalry between JustaBill and Maul E. Weasley… as jammers! Both of them really get into and even attempt some jammer on jammer action as they round the apex! However, in the heat of it all, both of them are caught on a Failure to Dance penalty at the same time and end their jam in the box!

Next it’s the UnRaveler’s turn to swap with a Sweet blocker. She does a great job keeping up with a very fast moving pack, but Cup Quack is equally as good at calling penalties and sends the UnRaveler to the box for a cut track!

The banana is back, but this time, its our referee R-Pod who is granted the ultimate power, and he certainly takes full advantage of it giving Strawberry BB a taste of her own medicine. SO SALTY.

As we near the end of the second half, team Salty aims whips out some strategy with a capital S. What the Pho? pairs up with Salty’s Wheat Thick who, as the banana, repeatedly disrupts the Sweet blocker line at just the right moment time to allow What the Pho? through for an unchallenged 32 point jam! This is followed by another 19 unchallenged points from team Salty’s Anita Burrito as the banana jammer while Ice Queen Slam-Witch from team Salty has a new touch rule. When touched by Ice Queen, the opposing team must bow thee times I’m-not-worthy style before her (like the Queen she is)! Not only this, but team Sweet’s pivot has to pull the jammer truck and trailer style (ie. holding on their their hips in a train)!

Team Sweet says, “Enough of this!” and sends out Red Bully to race around the track for team Sweet as Cup Quake clears her path, using the same technique as Wheat Thick. It works like a charm for an unchallenged 20 points.

In the final game of the night, we get one last BB Banana. However, this time, a touch from her means the opposing skaters must do a burpee! So while everyone is exhausted, team Salty is getting one final workout! Brutal!

And in the end, everyone is a winner with a final tied score of 259 to 259 (thanks to a generous donation)!

Panda’s LATE Late Season 13 Opening Bout Recap

    Hello Derby Fans!

I know you’ve all just been DYING to know what happened in our Season 13 Opener!

Next time if you don’t want to wait on me for a recap (Panda’s are really lazy sometimes, you know? 😉 ), you can relive all of the past excitement on Vimeo!

But since you’re here, let’s get on with it!

    Aviators vs Overbeaters Anonymous (OBA)

Aviator’s jammer, Ivana Hercha, starts the bout out with a quick sprint out for jammer lead and putting the first 2 points on the board in just 10 seconds! Her fellow Aviator jammers, BB5 and Jacklyn Hyde, follow her steps and the Aviators dominate lead jammer status for a few jams.

OBA and Aviator blockers shut down their opposing jammers, BB5 and Ripples respectively, as the teams have a standoff on the pivot line. Finally Ripples breaks free for an OBA lead, but BB5, without hesitation, makes a quick panty pass to Razor WreckHer. With Razor hot on Ripples’ tracks, Ripples is forced to call the jam.

Jacklyn Hyde makes herself known to OBA as she weaves her way through their defense again and again. She seems to have developed a “signature move” as she, on more than one occasion, keeps herself in after a solid hit, while teetering on the edge of her skates!

About halfway through the first half, we see brief game of jammer leapfrog, in and out of the penalty box. (Giving the NSO’s a good mental workout!)

Aviator MVP awards go to Jacklyn Hyde (jammer) and The Mexorsist (blocker) [photo credit: Shutter Up Photography]

The Aviator blockers steal the show with some back-to-back smart plays, stopping OBA in their tracks. We see Bitch-n-Chips take an open almost-too-easy inside lane, but it’s a trap and Ruby Ruckus steps into position just in time to knock the jammer out, forcing her to recycle. In the same jam, the Aviator blockers knock Chips out again, and Ruby sneaks back behind the others before Chips has a chance to step back on, causing the jam to end with the OBA jammer in the box for a cut track!

Near the end of the first half, we see Aviator defenders Kat and TFO doing a fantastic two-person wall against the OBA jammer as the last Aviators standing! (Where did everybody go?! Even the jammer!)

OBA jammer, Sheriff of Naughty Ham, finishes the first half strong for OBA with an unchallenged 12 point jam, thanks to some killer offense, closing the point difference to just 68 to 84, Aviator lead.

OBA comes back from the half looking the close that point gap even more, grabbing lead jammer status for the first several jams. Jack puts an end to OBA’s point spree as she grabs lead jammer and her own 12 unchallenged points for the Aviators. (Sometimes all you do is blink, and you’ll miss Jack sneak by on that inside line!)

Both teams seemed to have a better understanding of their opponents, matching blockers to jammers as the teams take turn with lead jammer status. Nonetheless, Aviators manage to widen that point gap to a more comfortable state. BUT, there is still much more derby left for OBA to catch up!

About half way through the second half, the teams decide to shake things up as both Aviators and OBA send up-until-now-blockers, Thigh Fighter and Hippo Pottymouth, respectively, out to jam. As Thigh Fighter is sent to the box, Hippo Pottymouth uses brute force to push the Aviator wall around the track. Just as she makes it out with lead status and thinks she is home free, Razor Wrecker catches up and knocks her out. Hippo Pottymouth says “I’m over this jamming business”, and calls off the jam.

Looking to try a different tactic, OBA jammer, Miso Hungry, starts the jam off with an immediate star pass to pivot, Ripples, who, positioned ahead of the Aviator pack, is now free to start her scoring pass before anyone has time to react! Despite sacrificing the chance to get lead jammer status, OBA snags themselves another 16 points for the jam! What a maneuver!

As we near the end of the bout, Aviators start to mix things up a bit. Aviators put Katastrophic in for the first time as jammer. With the help of her blockers to keep the pack in the back, Kat is able to stretch the OBA defense out until she gains lead jammer! In the final jam, Mai Tai Smashya dons the jammer panty for the first time, and the Aviator defense does it again, holding onto the OBA jammer, Taco Belle, back just enough to allow Mai Tai to push through for lead. Mai Tai makes it around and calls off the jam before Taco Belle has a chance to catch her.

    TLDR:

Final score: 179 to 102 (Aviators)

    Skyraiders vs Grunge City Rollers

Here in the second bout of the evening, Grunge City’s jammer, EllaPhobia, gets things started with a quick out for lead and a quick 4 points for Grunge. However, just as quick, she is sent to the box, giving Aviator’s, Medikate, a chance to catch up. EllaPhobia, out of the box, makes a graceful leap over the apex AND over Simone LeBomb! This 2 minute jam ends 12 to 3, Grunge City.

Jacklyn Hyde is back on the track, skating now for the Skyraiders! Despite going into her second hour as jammer, (I’m exhausted just watching her!) Jack once again works her magic to grab jammer lead and 4 more points for Skyraiders!

Next we have a jam that is all legs, with Deadly Long Legs versus Legs Get’em on the jammer start line. Deadly Long Legs proves to be the faster Legs as she grabs lead for Skyraiders and 4 more points before calling off the jam.

The Skyraiders and Grunge City Rollers are definitely giving us a anxiety-inducing game of Point Lead Leap Frog! At 10 minutes in, the teams are tied 20:20! 7 minutes later and they are tied up again with 31:31!

Skyraider MVP awards go to Deadly Long Legs (jammer) and Chic-let’s Rock (blocker) [photo credit: Shutter Up Photography]

Jack brings out her signature move again with a beautiful toe stop pirouette along the inside after a nice hit from Grunge, managing to stay in, to stay upright, AND to grab lead jammer. Unfortunately, EllaPhobia is hot on her tracks, and Jack is forced to call off the jam before scoring any points.

This is followed by a high impact, high speed race (true to the derby name, right?) between Deadly Long Legs and Grunge’s Keedy as they hit the pack and break out in seconds, Legs just a hair out in front for lead jammer. As the two race around the track, Skyraider blockers move themselves as far out in front without breaking pack, to allow Legs the chance to pass the Grunge blockers and call off the jam before Keedy can reach them! What a smart pack play!

Just before the end of the first half, both teams try a new angle as Skyraider’s Angelica Della Mote and Grunge’s Haz Yo Key don the jammer panties for the first time. The score stays even as both grab one more point for each team. But, if anything, they’ve let their fast moving jammers a small break (I’m sure Jack appreciates one!)

At the half, Skyraiders have established themselves a bit of a lead, but only by 14 points! 73 to 59 is still anyone’s game!

Early into the second half, Skyraiders are given a power start. At the whistle, the Skyraiders blockers, as one, skate in the opposite direction to intentionally break the pack with no one player at fault. This allows Jack to push the front blockers forward enough to gain lead. That’s teamwork!

A few jams later we see a beautiful, solid hit out by Simone leBomb, knocking Haz Yo Key out of play. Meanwhile, Chic-let’s Rock speeds around the track as lead jammer and ends with an 11 point to 0 jam!

About halfway through the second half, we see Chic-let’s Rock jamming again and solo blocker, Killer Tofu, take on the whole grunge line-up! (The penalty box is overflowing with Skyraiders!) Grunge jammer, Legs Get’em, goes one-on-one against Tofu, is delayed for a moment, but makes in through for lead. Without hesitation, Tofu runs back to give some offense to Rocky, and, with it, Rocky slips along the inside line not far behind Legs.

Later, after a lengthy official review, both the Skyraiders and Grunge jammers starting the jam in the box. On the whistle, the two jammers make a mad dash out and Deadly Long Legs, out front, hits the pack like a rocket and breaks through instantly for lead. On her next scoring pass, she FLIES over the apex! (She makes it look so effortless!) Meanwhile, her defenders work together to hold the grunge jammer, Amelia Bare-Heart. Eventually, she gets the star passed to her pivot, Velvet Hammer, but the jam is called before Velvet can make it around, landing Skyriders with a nice 16 to 0 jam!

As we near the end of the bout, we see Angelica put on the jammer panty once again and she does NOT disappoint for an exciting last jam! Weaving through the grunge blockers with an ease and grace (like she didn’t just play derby for a whole hour!) she grabs jammer lead status. With the crowds screaming for her to keep going, the time runs out and Skyraiders end with a whomping 21 point jam!

    TLDR:

Final Score: 205 to 99 (Skyraiders)

In front of a packed house, the Hula Honeys (1-2) squared off against the Pink Pistols (0-3) in a grudge match for third place. The Hula Honeys started off with an early lead, and despite the repeated attempts from the Pistols, the first half ended with a score of 111 (HH) to 59 (PP).  In the second half the Hulas built their score up, eventually leading the Pistols by over 100 points. The Hulas continued to dominate the Pistols, shutting down their jammers with strong defense. The Pistols never gave up for a second, and made the Hulas work for every point. The Hula Honeys took third place on the season.

The Championship bout was the big event of the night as the Camaro Harem (2-1) took on CarnEvil (3-0). This highly anticipated match up did not disappoint as leads traded back and forth, everyone hungry for the championship trophy.  Both teams’ jammers saw time in the penalty box, but the strong Harem defense allowed very few power jam points by the CarnEvil jammers.  At the half the Harem pulled ahead for a score of 105 (Camaro Harem) to 63 (CarnEvil).  In the second half the Harem was able to claim lead jammer status and control the clock, while the CarnEvil jammers struggled to get out of the pack. Flex Calibur (CarnEvil) put some big points on the board and kept the Carnies in the game, but the staunch Harem defense and quick footed jammers proved too much for the Carnies.  The Harem handed them their first loss of the season, and claimed the Championship trophy for the 4th time in Jet City history.

  • Season 10 Opening Bout: Recap

Jetcity’s CarnEvil and Camero Harem hit the track Rollin, ready to open the tenth season with a bang! Things started out quick when Ivanna Hercha took an open line with a hop and a Twist around the outside and was out for lead Jammer for Camaro harem. The Harem defense was able to lock down Sketch E Artist, the Jammer of record for CarnEvil. The CarnEvil defense was able to keep Ivana down to a 4 point pass before forcing her to call it. The two teams traded big hits and lead status back and forth throughout the half.

CarnEvil claimed the lead quickly and held it throughout the first half. The teams came out about 50/50 obtaining lead Jammer status. Camero Harem fielded Ivanna Hercha, Madam Mayhem and Kat VonDevious regularly as their Jammers. On the CarnEvil side it was Sketch E Artist, Flex Caliber and Crash Smashum donning the star. The half closed with Harem being held to a scoreless jam. The half ended with a score of 122 to 59. CarnEvil holding the lead.

Both teams came back from the half ready to continue the battle! The first two jams, each team was held scoreless thanks to some fantastic defense. CarnEvil kept inching away despite Camero Harem’s best efforts to take back some momentum.

In the last jam of the game we saw the familiar faces of Ivanna Hercha and Crash Smashum lining up against each other. Ivanna grabbed the lead with an apex jump over Turn 1 and off she went to score points for her team.  With a huge smile on her face she came whipping around the track adding points to her team’s scoreboard. Crash was able to rack up some points of her own. The jam was called and CarnEvil held the lead! Final score 179-147. First game of season 10 in the books with last year’s, 4th place team, taking the win over last year’s runner-up. This is going to be a fantastic season!

For the second game of the night it was the Pink Pistols facing off against the Hula Honey’s.

Things took off with the bang as recent transfer, Deviled Megs took the star for the Hula Honeys against veteran Ill’ah Smash Ya for the Pink Pistols. Both teams started with a scrum start.  Ill’ah got out lead jammer, sadly for her, she was quickly knocked out of bounds by RocknRolla Chola and recycled to the back of the pack. Deviled Meg was able to push her way through, forcing the Pistols to call it. All ended in a 0 to 0 jam. Both teams were ready to get back on the track to see who could draw First Blood.

There were several scoreless jams throughout the first half, a testament to both teams on point defense. The Hula Honeys held the lead for some time. About halfway through the first quarter the pistols has had enough and stepped up their lead Jammer game. The pistols fielded Chick Eastwood, Pretty Lil flier and the sister team Ill’ah Smash Ya and GRRR Rawr Rawr. On the Hula side, it was Impailor Moon, Swag on Ninja, Harry Pugger, Brut Champain and Deviled Megs doing the bulk of the work. The half ended with another recent transfer to the Hula’s,  Swag On Ninja being called lead Jammer! Hulas maintain their lead with an 87 to Pistols 59 at the half.

Both teams came back to the game amped up from their half time pep talks ready to play!

The second half started with Brut Champain and Ill’ah Smash Ya jamming for their perspective teams. The Hulas took first blood with lead Jammer and a 4 point pass. However, the pistols were able to snatch 2 points of their own. The Hula’s kept their lead throughout the second half and just kept inching away from last year’s champions.

In the last jam of the night, we saw Chick Eastwood and Harry Pugger lining up. With a push and a Juke, Pugger gained the lead! She was able to call up the jam giving the hula the hard-earned win! Final score was 230 to 140. What is season we are gearing up for! In our second game of the night, last year’s 3rd place Hula’s took the win over last year’s Champions, the Pink Pistols.

    Camaro Harem vs. Pink Pistols
    February 20, 2016

The trash-talking had begun in earnest well before bout day, so both teams were pumped up and ready for action! The bout started fast and furious. Ivana Hercha drew first blood for the Harem with a 4-point jam to get things going. The Pistols weren’t taking that lying down, however – they returned fire and took the score to 17-9 before the first five minutes were over, regaining the lead and holding onto it.

Harem jammers Madam Mayhem, Kat Von Devious, and Ivana Hercha fought hard, but the Pistols defense (led by Nasty Nikki Nightstick, Spontaneous Combustya, and Ill Ninja) held them back while Pistol jammers I’llah Smashya, MediKate, and Chick Eastwood racked up the points. By the 12th jam, the Pistols had extended their lead to 58-24, with Ivana Hercha and I’llah Smashya often taking the line against each other. However, the Harem brought out one of their other jammers, Rayne Bowbite, who took lead jammer about halfway through the first period. Biter always tears around the track with a huge smile on her face!

As the first period drew to a close, the score was 88-34 Pistols with Ivana Hercha taking the line against I’llah Smashya. Pistols blockers Ill Ninja, Spontaneous Combustya, and The Mexorcist held tight and kept the Harem scoreless. In the very next jam, it looked like there was going to be a turnaround for the Harem – Madam Mayhem got lead after MediKate was sent to the box on a track cut, giving them the power jam. However, Kate burst out of the penalty box and managed to score four points before the jam ended.

The second half started with the score standing at 98-49, Pistols. Ivana Hercha took lead jammer, but was quickly forced out of bounds by Nasty Nikki Nightstick. Nikki made short work of Ivana again a few jams later, with help from Ill Ninja and Spontaneous Combustya. Bustya wasn’t finished, however. In the 6th jam of the second period, she laid a huge hit on jammer Razor WreckHer, who had just gotten lead jammer. The Harem scored quite a few points in those first few jams, bringing their score to 69.

With a giant grin on her face, Razor took the line again as jammer in Jam 10 and got lead right away, scoring three points to the Pistols’ zero. The Harem kept chipping away, scoring a few points every jam, holding the Pistols scoreless for 5 straight jams. By Jam 15, the score was 117-96, Pistols, and the crowd was starting to go crazy. The Harem scored again in Jams 16 and 17, bringing the score to 119-105.

The intensity increased with each jam. In Jam 18, Rayne Bowbite took the line against I’llah Smashya with her signature grin. She took lead, but was forced out and recycled back by Nasty Nikki Nightstick. However, I’llah was also forced back. During the jam, the inevitable “dogpile” occurred, with skaters falling en masse.

With 8:20 left in the period, the score was 123-110, Pistols. Razor WreckHer was sent to the box on a back block, giving MediKate lead jammer and enabling her to score eight points, taking the score to 131-110 as she called off the jam with Razor still in the box.

Chick Eastwood takes the line on a power start, but did not get lead due to the Harem’s strong defense. Razor burst from the box and took lead, calling it quickly after passing the last blocker. At the whistle, Chick was sent to the penalty box for a late hit, giving the Harem a power start.

Ivana Hercha took lead in the next jam with Chick Eastwood in the penalty box, bringing the score to 131-125. There are five minutes to go in the period, and the crowd is going wild. I’llah Smashya takes the line in the next jam, quickly gets lead, and calls it off after scoring four points.

Razor WreckHer takes the line for the Harem in the next jam, gets lead, and the Pistols jammer ends up in the penalty box, along with two Pistols blockers. The Pistols defense holds Razor to a five-point jam, bringing the score to 135-130.

Jam 25: Ivana Hercha gets lead jammer and scores five points, quickly ending the jam with 1:25 to go. The score is now tied at 135, and the crowd is screaming! Ivana remains on the track as the jammer, facing off against MediKate in what will be the last jam. Ivana gets lead jammer again, and both teams fight furiously to maintain defense, but Ivana manages to score 13 points to Kate’s 4, ending the bout with a score of 148-139.

It was truly a nail-biter, with edge-of-your-seat action, big hits, fast jammers, and a ton of intensity. You won’t want to miss the rematch as these two teams battle again for league domination on April 16th!

JCRG Bout 2 results; Derby Sisters

On Saturday, December 19th the stage was set for Jet City’s second double-header of Season 9.  Santa was in the house giving out candy canes, the beer garden was full of merry fans and the skaters were ready for action!
The first bout of the night saw the Camaro Harem up against our first visiting team of the season, the Heartless Heathers of the Rose City Rollers from Portland, OR.  The Harem played this team last year in Portland and both teams were ready for the rematch. The Harem came out with a bang in the first half, shutting out the Heathers in the first 5 jams of the bout.  The Heathers, however, were quick to figure out the Harem defense, and were able to counter with strong walls and smart jammers.  There were multiple lead changes throughout the bout; with the greatest score differential being no more than 30 at any time.  The bout came down to the very last jam with the Harem a mere 3 points over the visiting team… When the final jam ended the Heartless Heathers beat the Camaro Harem in a nail biter~ giving all the fans a great roller derby bout to watch!

    Final Score:

    Heartless Heathers;  197pts

    Camaro Harem;   187pts

The second bout of the night was our home team match up: the Hula Honeys vs. the Pink Pistols. The Hulas came into the bout short-handed due to injuries, with only 9 skaters suiting up.  The teams were both eager for the win; it would be the first victory for the Hulas and the second for the Pistols. The bout was hard fought from the beginning~ a very physical game that hobbled the already short-handed Hulas.  By half time, the Pistols had doubled-up on the Hulas, who lost 2 more to injury during the first half.  Down to 7 skaters, the Hulas continued to fight against the mighty Pistols.  When the Hulas lost 2 more skaters fouling out with 7 penalties each, the Hulas threw in the towel. With 15 minutes still on the game clock, the captains of both teams took a time out to figure out how to finish the bout and give the fans something to cheer about.

Fans who stayed to watch were treated to derby sisterhood at it’s finest as 3 of the Pink Pistols (Nasty Nikki Nightstick, Ambitchous, The Mexorcist) donned Hula jerseys and played the remaining bout as Hula Honeys.  Cia WoodNwanna Bia (CarnEvil) also put on the turquoise to help out.  Even though they forfeited the game, this unprecedented move gave the Hulas more bodies to skate with, evened out the teams a bit, and ended up making a memorable bout never before seen in Jet City’s history.

    Final Score:

    Pink Pistols;  307pts

    Hula Honeys;  179pts
